The wedding day is one of the most important days in our lives. There are important decisions to make about the venue, theme, photographer, decoration, and so many others, but for a bride, it’s the gown that probably ranks at the very top. I for one will always focus on the details when I am picking the style and selecting my wedding dress.
Luckily, you can select from many different materials and styles for your gown – lace, tulle and various classic silk fabrics, such as chiffon, organza, satin, and more. There is also the awesome 100% silk velvet fabric, which I am sure you are going to love. You can learn more about different wedding dress fabric options here.
What Is The Silk Velvet Fabric?
The composition of silk velvet is unique. It has 18% silk, and the other remaining 82% is actually rayon with two sides. The back has silk chiffon, while on the face it is a soft rayon pile. It is a type of woven tufted material, where the cut threads are typically distributed evenly. Its short dense pile gives it a distinctive feel. Also remember, velvet can be both natural and synthetic.
Rayon silk velvet is extremely plush and supple. It offers excellent drape and feels very luxurious, smooth, and soft, making it a great choice.
The 100% silk velvet fabric is lighter in weight as compared to most other types of velvet, and its full-flowing and loose style is very sensual too, and is extremely well-suited for dressing like weddings, for also for wraps, capes, and dresses. Naturally, this variety of silk-velvet costs a bit more, but I believe it’s worth the additional price. Most velvet fabrics you will now find are actually blends because of the high cost.
You can immersion dye your silk velvet fabric as well, and hand washed at home in cold water. However, I will still recommend that you go for dry cleaning.
What You Should Wear For Your Wedding
The decision on what to wear can be based on whether you are having an outdoor or indoor wedding, the weather, and of course, your personal preference among other factors. But no matter which fabric or style you select, there are some other critical decisions you will still have to make.
Here are some other useful tips that you may find very handy.
Wedding Dress Silhouette
Make sure that you have the right wedding dress silhouette. Always value your personal choice and style, but remember to go for something that is going to flatter you the most. Yes, look at the current fashions and trends, but don’t select a style that won’t look good on you.
The Best Time for Wedding Dress Appointment
Try to make sure that your bridal dress appointment is early in the day. The store will probably be less crowded at this time, and so they are likely to give you more attention. As a result, the quality of service will improve.
Try Different Dresses to Find One You Love
The dress may look awesome on a manikin, but you may appear different in it. Try as many dresses so you are sure that you have the perfect gown. Be patient. You cannot take any chances here. It’s also a good idea to bring your camera along. Take pictures from different angles in different dresses and refer back to see how you look. However, many boutiques won’t let you snap pictures. So check in advance.
Make Sure to Wear Great Lingerie
You must wear good lingerie while trying the dresses. A lot of time will be spent in lingerie on the day when you try these dresses, so you have to feel comfortable in them. Get a new bra from a lingerie shop or a store where there is a bra fitting specialist. It doesn’t make sense to wear your everyday lingerie below a gorgeous wedding gown on your special day.
Don’t Buy Alone
Always have at least one person beside you, a friend or family member, whether you are buying the wedding dress online or offline. Make sure the person knows your preferences, and has great taste. You should also be able to trust that person. Don’t bring a team of girlfriends. Too many opinions will end up confusing you.
Don’t Worry About Sizing
You will find bridal gowns in different sizes. They can also be altered to ensure that the fit is perfect. If you are not comfortable, just select a design, buy the fabric online, and get your gown custom-made for you. This way, your dress will just be what you want.
New Wedding Dress Trends For 2018
Here are some of the latest wedding dress trends for this season. Check them out –
Many brides are preferring to wear stand-alone sleeves after they were a hit in the runways at the Bridal Fashion Week. Some of them are preparing dresses where the arm warmers are attached to the dress itself, but in others, they are independent from the gown. The stand-alone sleeves make the bridal dresses look more playful.
Cascading Shoulder Bows
Bridal dresses have had bows before, but for the first time, we are seeing them streaming down the shoulders. Some of them are dangling only to the elbows, while others are grazing to the floor. Looks good, if you ask me.
High-low bridal hemlines first arrived in 1992, but they are now really hot. Some brides are even wearing the hemlines with patterned fabric featuring horsehair trim. It is looking good as well.
Next-Generation Butt Bows
Once again, this isn’t a new trend – we saw them first in the 1980s. But the same trend has now been re-imagined, and it is looking better as a result. What’s new? It’s not a stiff shape anymore. The waist-accentuating bows are looking fresh. They are either ornamental or undone.
